High-risk groups
Although the HIV virus does not discriminate there are some groups who are more at risk of contracting the virus then others. These include:
- Sex workers and their partners
- Injecting drugs users
- Truck drivers
- Labour migrants
- Refugees
As the latter three groups in the list are mobile groups they have the potential to pass the infection from community to community at a much greater rate than some other risk-groups. Education and the changing of attitudes towards sexual behaviour are therefore key to helping minimise their risk.
