North Sudan is currently witnessing a looming HIV epidemic. The total number of adults and children living with HIV is estimated to be over 122,216 with orphans of AIDS to have reached over 27,000 by the end of 2009 (UNGASS Report, 2010).
The populations most at risk of infection include refugees and internally displaced people. Of these women and young girls are particularly vulnerable.
How you can help us
Your donation to the Mother of Sudan campaign will:
- Help women learn skills to help them find jobs
- Teach people about the importance of HIV testing and how to prevent it
- Prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV
- Change attitudes by reducing HIV-related stigma and discrimination in the community
Here is a UN report from last year about the HIV/AIDS situation in North Sudan.
Remember, HIV is a bigger cultural and social phenomenon than it is a medical issue. It is entirely preventable if we take action.
Our recent project in Niger helped to change the lives of disempowered women through teaching them income generating skills such as soap making, which can lead to them lifting themselves out of poverty. Your donation can really make a change!
